Hi!
Hello and welcome to the Nicole Ioma blog! I’m so glad you’re here =)
I thought I would start out with a little introduction. I’m Nicole (my middle name is Ioma, pronounced eye-OH-muh) and I live in Indiana with my husband, stepdaughter, and two cats. I’ve been doing art for basically forever (think lots of art kits as a kid, art journaling as a teenager, taking way too long on every school project when it really didn’t need to look that good, etc.) but it really started out with my photography classes in middle and high school.
Fast forward to now and somehow I am a high school art teacher (which was all accidental, but that’s a story for another day!) When I was in my 3rd year of teaching in.. 2013 maybe? 2014? ..I was told I would be teaching most of the Fiber Arts courses. I had only taken one textiles course in college but I knew I wanted to give my students a full fiber arts experience, so I began teaching myself as much as I possibly could.
Now here I am, teaching Fiber Arts and Digital Photography to teenagers, and I have fully immersed myself in the Fiber Arts world. I do pretty much all of it and my biggest weakness is probably that I jump from project to project instead of focusing on any one thing. My favorites are weaving, macrame, combining weaving and macrame, and embroidery, but I am also into 2D & 3D needle felting and shibori dyeing from time to time.
I’ve always wanted to be more serious with my art but I have talked myself out of it over the past 10+ years. This year I decided to go part-time at my teaching job which means I have the time (and the pressure!) to actually make this happen. Join me as I figure it what exactly I want to do and how to make it happen! Again, I’m so glad you’re here =)
