Tiny
I’ve been trying to come up with an idea for my bookmaking final and I’ve been completely stumped. I just keep coming back to the idea of making several tiny books… but no ideas on content, or why a tiny book, or anything. So today I decided to just make one and go from there.

There it is!! With a few other objects, for size reference. It’s so tiny, about the size of a quarter, and I love it. I keep flipping through the pages (which isn’t easy and makes me feel like I have the hands of a giant) and trying to figure out WHAT I’m going to do with it. I’ve thought about making several and making a miniature bookcase to put them in when they’re finished. Or I could make a box for them like the Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings books. They could have all different colored covers and they’ll be beautiful and adorable and tiny and perfect. But I still can’t think of content for the life of me.
My roommate and I were brainstorming and we came up with the idea of fingerprints, since that’s about the size of the pages. I thought I could make one book for each of the people in my life I am closest to, and have ten pages with a fingerprint on each of them and their name as the title. I was really excited about the idea at first, but I’m already getting bored with it and I haven’t even started.
I thought about having each book be a color, filled with tiny photos of certain colors (one book of green, one book of purple) but I did a class project similar to this last fall so I don’t think I want to do that. But maybe something in that direction? I want all the books (probably about 5-10) to work together but be their own separate entity at the same time.
I was also thinking that it’d be really cool if the pages were really loud and shocking. Since it’s so small, the reader would open it already anticipating needing to squint to see the pages or hold the book up to their face to be able to see. I want whatever is on the pages to just explode from the book, you know? But I can’t quite put my finger on what I want to do. It’s like it’s right on the tip of my tongue… I can see it, I just can’t figure out what it is. Does that make sense?
Does anybody have any suggestions?

ohmygosh it’s teeny! nice job!
I like the idea of a protective box… you could make it a game sort of, like unwrapping a present – make a whole bunch of boxes that go into one another, and then in the center is your tiny book. Kind of like a Russian nesting doll.
Or make like 4 tiny books, and cut out resting places for them inside of a larger book (cut through the pages).
I like the fingerprint idea, too – it is the perfect size! Or you could collect dead bugs and tape them on to the tiny pages (ew, but cool)!
… on the idea of something exploding from the pages – pop-ups would work for that, but you would probably only be able to have one pop-up in such a small book.
Good luck and I’d love to see what you come up with!
