Opposition Project – Colored Pencil Drawings

I continue to be so impressed with my students. Here are some works by my Drawing II kids for a colored pencil project about opposition. They each had two opposing words to work with, and were supposed to show a relationship or interaction between those two words. This is the first time they’ve used color (but have plenty of experience with graphite, pen & ink, and other forms of black & white media.)

These kids put in so much time and effort, it’s unbelievable. I have a few more great ones that haven’t been turned in yet… which actually is a bit of a dilemma. Some kids produce STELLAR work, but they take so long that they end up turning it in 2 weeks late. I have struggled with taking points off for late work, even though it is clearly A+ work… but then kids will turn in C work and if I don’t take late points off for the good work then I can’t for the average work, you know? It’s different, I guess, depending on how they use their class time. I don’t know… what do you think? I definitely do not like the grading aspect of teaching, that’s for sure.

Which one(s) do you like the best?! I think they’re all awesome.

Self-Portrait ACEO

I want to draw and paint all day but instead I have to cut it short now and write some papers and lesson plans. I’m getting a little obsessed with ACEOs… it’s nice to be able to finish a piece of art so quickly, you know? Plus… they’re cute =)

As promised, here are some photos of the stamp that I made yesterday to use as an example for my Saturday school class…

I had a lot of fun making it and now I want to make them 24/7. I’m actually really behind on work right now cause I kept trying out different colors and color combinations… oops =) I’m trying to think of what sort of image I should make when I do the demo on Saturday, any ideas?

-Embroidered found photos by Maurizio Anzeri (via Craftzine). Creepy, right?? They remind me of this book cover for some reason… no idea why. Maybe because they’re both creepy portraits.

-I was just really drawn to this photograph, found on this post at Yes and Yes about quote tattoos (there are some other good ones too.)

-These styrofoam cups are crazzyyy… TONS more right here, found via curbly.

-Love love love the colors in this tree image (slight clutter via kind over matter.)

-Okay now this painting is amazing. I found the artist, Jennifer Sánchez, through the blog Artists who Blog (which you should check out) and I am really into her style. Stomach Series

This is an ongoing series that began in the spring of 2007 with the above photograph. It was taken for an assignment in my introduction to photography class that was about portraits, self-portraits, and the body. Later that semester I decided to draw the photograph for my (introductory) drawing class.

In November/December 2008 I made a print of the image in a printmaking course.

And in January 2009 I had a self-portrait assignment in a textiles class, and interpreted the image with fabrics that I dyed.
