Some More Opposition Drawings…

Remember when I was showing off the Opposition Project that my Drawing 2 students did, and I brought up the problem of grading late work?

Well a couple of my late workers got their drawings in so I wanted to go ahead and share those too =) They are two extremely talented girls so of course I need to show them off!

I can’t remember the words for the first image (maybe Fantasy & Reality?) but the second image is based on the words Friendly & Hostile. I think it’s such a great interpretation (though a little dark! These kids come up with some heavy stuff sometimes) and her representation of the water gun is PERFECT. They are so so good.

Anyway I hope you all have had a good weekend. This week is my last full week of student teaching, though I won’t finish until mid-April because I have to finish 2-3 days after a week of spring break. I am really going to miss it… I can’t believe it’s almost over.

Opposition Project – Colored Pencil Drawings

I continue to be so impressed with my students. Here are some works by my Drawing II kids for a colored pencil project about opposition. They each had two opposing words to work with, and were supposed to show a relationship or interaction between those two words. This is the first time they’ve used color (but have plenty of experience with graphite, pen & ink, and other forms of black & white media.)

These kids put in so much time and effort, it’s unbelievable. I have a few more great ones that haven’t been turned in yet… which actually is a bit of a dilemma. Some kids produce STELLAR work, but they take so long that they end up turning it in 2 weeks late. I have struggled with taking points off for late work, even though it is clearly A+ work… but then kids will turn in C work and if I don’t take late points off for the good work then I can’t for the average work, you know? It’s different, I guess, depending on how they use their class time. I don’t know… what do you think? I definitely do not like the grading aspect of teaching, that’s for sure.

Which one(s) do you like the best?! I think they’re all awesome.

Architecture Painting Project for High School

This is the first display I set up in my classroom! My kids did a project on Architecture & Color… which means they had a LOT to learn (this is their first art class.) We covered color theory, basic photoshop & photography tips, drawing, AND painting just for one little project. They probably have no idea how much they learned, but LOOK at how good they turned out:

What do you think? I’m proud of them, especially since most of them are so scared of art and of getting a bad grade. It’s nice to see them produce something they didn’t realize they could!

I’ll be posting a ton more so get ready to see some student work =)

Spray Painting Landscapes

A couple weeks ago I tweeted about learning a new way to paint, and then I lost my camera with the photos documenting it! I finally found it though, so here they are. It’s an interesting process, VERY quick (each painting takes about 10-15 minutes only!) but with great results.

Isn’t that crazy?! All done with spray paint. I really want to experiment with it a little now that I have the general idea down (thanks to my friend Drew for teaching me!) What do you think?

Flower Painting Progress

My flower painting, which I have been working on off & on for a while now, is not so much about flowers anymore (see how it started here.) Here are a couple more in progress pictures…

I don’t know. I’m not sure how I feel about it right now, I’m just kind of… stuck. Which means I will probably leave it alone for another few weeks and then get back to it! Ideas/suggestions/thoughts??

So today is very gray (although it’s supposed to get to 60!) and I have a MIDTERM this afternoon and looking at my notecards is literally making me feel sick I’ve been studying so much, so here’s a little photo inspiration to pump up this day.

Paint Palette Coasters

They’re coasters from Curbly. Adorable. They kind of make me want to turn into a MAJOR art teacher geek and start wearing paint palette earrings or something. WHICH EXIST! I just did a search and found these:

Okay these are COOKIES that you can buy on ETSY. Is it just me or is it crazy that you can buy cookies on etsy? She actually has a ton of cute cookies in her shop, if you want to check them out.

Okay, whoa, I’m done with the paint palettes now. Promise. (Unless, you know, you find something cool that is paint palette related and want to share =) !)

Tree Stamp

This is the example I made in front of the class, to demonstrate to them how to do it. It’s crazy how quick they can be, and I have soo many other ideas of what to make. I’m not 100% thrilled with this one but I like it and it worked well as a teaching tool.

Remember the millions of things I said I needed to do this weekend? Yup, working on it. So many ideas/too little time/too much homework. For realz.

Key Stamp

As promised, here are some photos of the stamp that I made yesterday to use as an example for my Saturday school class…

I had a lot of fun making it and now I want to make them 24/7. I’m actually really behind on work right now cause I kept trying out different colors and color combinations… oops =) I’m trying to think of what sort of image I should make when I do the demo on Saturday, any ideas?

Suspension

Tonight my friend was talking about doing an art lesson on suspension, and it reminded me of a project I did for a photography class a couple years ago so I thought I’d share it here =)

I can’t remember what the assignment was exactly, I just remember that I wanted to play around and experiment with color and light. Sooo.. what do you think?

Oh and also, today I made my sample stamp and I had a lot of fun with it. I think the students will too, as long as they’re careful with those tools… we’ll see. Anyway I’ll post pictures tomorrow =) it really made me miss my printmaking class.
