Hair Dye

Sooo I can be pretty impulsive sometimes, and on Sunday I decided that I HAD to dye my hair RIGHTAWAY so I went to the store and got some semi-permanent hair dye (I like my natural color too much so I never want to put anything permanent on my hair.)  I had about an hour before I had to go to my cousin’s for the super bowl and I was convinced that I would be able to pull it off in time, but as I read the instructions I kept seeing DANGER: DO AN ALLERGY TEST and things about severe reactions, shortness of breath, dizziness… blindness… after seeing enough warnings I just did the effing allergy test.  So I did, and was supposed to monitor the area for 48 hours and cover it with a bandaid in the shower (like that would really do anything) but I forgot and washed it off after 12.  But it was fine til then, so, I figured whatever.

Soo today I had about an hour before I had to leave for work and decided that was the perfect time to do it.  It was supposed to be on my hair for 10 minutes, but it took me 15 minutes to get it all on my hair in the first place and I didn’t know if I was supposed to start the 10 minute timer then or just wash it out right away or…what… and then my scalp starting to feel like it was on FIRE.  And my mind flashed back to all the WASH OUT IMMEDIATELY, DO NOT USE warnings and SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.  So, did they expect me to call 911 and then hop in the shower to rinse and wait?  I wasn’t exactly excited about paramedics finding me passed out in the shower covered in hair dye.

So I just rinsed it out and got ready REALLY fast (because by that time I was running late for work) and kept somehow convincing myself that I was experiencing crazy hair dye lethal symptoms and wondering what my supervisor would say if I told him I couldn’t work cause of a hair dye mishap.  I didn’t have time to dry my hair completely but did notice in the sun that it looks sort of…. purple.  Oh.  My.  So I grabbed a hat and ran out the door.

I got to work and checked my email and found one from my supervisor, saying I didn’t have to come into work today because of the snow.  But that if I was already on campus I could stay.  So I am staying.  And that picture of me is my new hair, but you really can’t see it because I am sitting in a dark, windowless art supply room, but I wanted to include a picture anyway (who tells a story about dyed hair and then doesn’t include a picture?)  Also it shows where I work on Tuesday afternoons, which is kinda cool, I guess…maybe.  Haha.

ANYWAY, I’m planning on doing a DIY tutorial post for tomorrow, so get excited.

You crack me up. and I miss you. Hope your hair turns out okay. But you know you’ll still be beautiful–even with purple hair. (Hey you’re an art teacher–you can SO pull it off!)

Haha thanks Amanda =) I miss you too! Oh and you can expect something in the mail soon!! =)

  • It’s hard to tell but from what I can see your hair looks fine. Just for future reference it’s 10 min after it’s completely applied. Be very careful with “box” dye. It’s very harsh on your hair even the semi-perm colors or even the temporary colors.

Love your city scape painting. I’ll have to try that out when I have room on my desk LOL!

I don’t know why I didn’t think to ask you before I did it! Next time, for sure. I don’t do it very often so hopefully my hair will be fine. Thanks for the tips =)
